Dr Ethel Andrews is the first nurse to have a PhD in Burns in South Africa, the first nurse to be a representative on the Pan African Burn Society and the first non- surgeon to be elected as president of the South Africa Burn Society. She is a member of the International Society for Burn Injuries and is the Australian and New Zealand Emergency Management of Severe Burns Course director for South Africa. She completed the International Interdisciplinary Wound Care Course (IIWCC) with the University of Toronto and has presented many research papers locally and internationally. Ethel has been inducted as a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and is a visiting lecturer at the University of Witwatersrand. Ethel Is the first recipient from Africa to receive the Baskent University Nursing award at the International Society for Burn Injuries. She has worked consistently in building networks globally, promoting nursing and being a global citizen and change leader. She is married with two children whom she considers a biggest source of pride.
